Family Road Trip Games

A lot of people are hitting the "holiday road" as vacations kick in. A salute and a tip of the hat to all those families who will be embarking on one of those loooong summer holiday road trips.

Thanks to technology, kids have it easy when it comes to road trips. When I was a kid there were no portable DVD players, gameboys or iPods. We had to make up games to play in the back seat of the truck.
Some of the popular "road games" included "I Spy", "Slug A Bug (also known as "punch-buggy"...everytime you spot a VW Beetle you punch the person next to you), "Alphabet Lists" (name countries, cities or towns using ever letter of the alphabet...thank God for Zanzibar!) and the most popular game...watching the vein on Dad's neck get bigger and bigger as we chant "Are we there yet"?

What games do you and your family play to pass the time (and miles) during those long road trips?

car games
We used to pick a number and then count the cars up to that number and that would be what we drove when we grew up. We also played that game where you draw a million dots on a page and try to complete squares or triangles one line at a time - whoever has their initials in the most squares wins.
